Who is Genesis?
Our Healthcare Expertise Is What Sets Us Apart
Genesis was founded by Rob Ball, Jeff Ondrla, and Don Running–longtime friends and successful medical device entrepreneurs. The company was started as a result of incoming demands for medical device development services using their technical knowledge, background, and success in the medical device industry.
The founders realized the deep need for support of early-stage medical device development by innovators with excellent ideas, but little experience in execution. Over time, this has lead to the creation of a specialized team for the development of medical devices, including a venture capital fund.
Our role as investors and industry partners is to focus the creative power of entrepreneurs by leveraging our network, resources, and experience to ensure their success. Combined, we have more than a century of experience in the medical device space, and over two hundred of patents and innovations to our names.

Tim is a seasoned, experienced healthcare leader who possesses a deep understanding of the med-tech field and brings insightful vision, strong decision-making, and inspirational leadership, resulting in a record of proven success.
Tim is passionate about developing, people, and delivering meaningful innovation for customers and patients. He builds trust and transparency with his teams, customers, and key stakeholders alike.
Rob Ball | Board of Directors
Rob has spent close to two decades bringing medical device technologies to market, including proprietary orthopedic materials.
He holds more than 30 issued or pending patents.
Matt Ahearn | Board of Directors
Matt is an entrepreneurial business leader with 15 years of experience building and managing dynamic technology companies.
He has a proven track record of successfully bringing innovative products and services to market.
David Blue | Board of Directors
David is an entrepreneurially driven healthcare executive with over 33 years of experience in the medical device industry and healthcare services companies.
He has served in various national senior executive leadership positions and key roles through-out a wide variety of different staged healthcare companies.
Don Running | Director | R&D | New Ventures
Don has worked 3 decades in the orthopedic industry serving in various C-level and executive R&D, Marketing and Business Development roles.
He has served in both large corporations and start-ups including Depuy-Synthes, Biomet, DVO, and Genesis Innovation Group.
Jeff Ondrla | Director | Quality | Regulatory & Supply Chain
Jeff is a 25 year veteran of the orthopedic industry, having served in R&D roles for Zimmer, Depuy, DVO, and Tornier.
He is a prolific inventor with more than 50 issued or pending patents.
R. Sean Churchill, MD, MBA | Board of Directors
Dr. Sean Churchill is the Executive Director for Genesis. Dr. Churchill has been with Genesis since 2014. He has worked over 20 years as a shoulder reconstruction specialist with Advocate Aurora in Milwaukee Wisconsin.
In addition to his experience in healthcare, he also has a background in engineering. Dr. Churchill has now relocated to Colorado and is working full time for Genesis and cultivate(MD)
